The following data is available for download from
ftp://ftp.polkpa.org:
You can also click on the headings below to go directly to that folder on
the ftp site. Many of our files are in PDF format. You will need to
download the latest version of
Adobe Acrobat Reader to view them.
Note: The Polk County Property Appraiser’s Office has recently converted their GIS data from ESRI Coverage format to an ESRI SDE Geodatabase. This conversion results in changes to the shapefiles on the polkpa.org ftpsite. The shapefile data from the old GIS will remain on the ftpsite for a few months. The old GIS data has been moved to a folder named GISData_old. This data is now static, it will no longer be updated. The new shapefiles are located in the GIS Data folder. Also located in the GISData folder is a spreadsheet comparing the old data to the new.
The Appraisal Data consists of ten files which contain the assessment data associated with parcels. It includes owner, sales, & property value information. The files are in text format (.txt) and zipped to reduce their size. They can be imported into Microsoft Access or a similar database program. The intended purpose of the Appraisal Data is to provide users the ability to create customized queries and reports (example: mail labels or sales reports). See Appraisal Data Download/Import instructions before you start to download. These files are updated daily.
Appraisal Data Download/Import Instructions
GIS Data is vector data of the areas of Polk County which have been completed
in GIS. These zipped files are provided in ESRI shapefile format.
This data is updated daily. A user intending to use
this data must have GIS software such as ArcView, ArcGIS or ArcGIS Explorer.

GIS Data Download Instructions
The IMAGES folder contains orthorectified aerial photography for 2001, 2002, 2005,
and 2007. Orthorectification is the name of the process used to remove distortion and make the photo fit real worked distances and surfaces. The compressed Images are in MrSID (Multi Resolution Seamless Image Database) format. This data is updated as new aerial photography becomes available.
Image Download Instructions
The Mapping worksheets are pdf files of the property appraiser worksheets commonly referred to as “plats”. You will need to download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader
to view them. This data is updated daily and is arranged by
Range-Township-Section (RTS) folders.
The FTP_Documentation folder contains documents relating to the data available for download. This is updated as necessary.
The Geodetic Control folder contains pdf files of the Polk County Geodetic Control Densification surveys.
The LightingDistrictsMaps folder contains pdf files of the Polk County lighting districts. This is updated as necessary.
The PriorYr_TaxRoll folder contains the Apprasial and GIS data at final tax roll for 2001 through 2009. This data is updated at final tax roll each year.
The GeneralMaps folder contains the GIS Parcel Mapping Status map, maps of aerial imagery extents, district boundary maps and other maps in pdf format.
The AdversePossessionData folder contains DR-452 (Return of Real Property in Attempt to Establish Adverse Possession Without Color of Title) documents that have been filed in the office of the Polk County Property Appraiser.
